Alaska Chapter, NSDAR
Fairbanks, Alaska

One Hundred Years of Service

The story begins on November 21, 1925, just one month shy of the shortest day of the year, when seven women got together and organized Alaska Chapter, NSDAR. Alaska was still a territory of the Unites States, and Fairbanks, a small city perched on the edge of the wilderness, was not connected to the rest of the country by any road. The officers were: Mrs. Lola May Boyd Morgan, Regent; Mrs. Jeanette Drury Clark, Vice Regent; Miss Ada Charis Chapman, Treasurer; and Mrs. Lillian Faloon Haskell Dillon, Registrar.

"New Alaskan Highway is Dedicated"

"A highlight of today's dedication of interest to Alaskans was the presentation of an Alaskan flag by Acting Gov. Bartlett on behalf of the Territory's chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution."

The above is an excerpt of an article in the November 20, 1942, edition of the Fairbanks Daily News Miner.  Microfilm version held at the Noel Wien Public Library, 1215 Cowles St., Fairbanks, Alaska.  Transcribed by Linda Patton, Regent, Alaska Chapter NSDAR, January 25, 2008.

For our country's bi-centennial celebration in 1976, members of the Alaska Chapter, NSDAR planted 13 chokecherry trees at the Alaska State Office Building for the 13 original colonies.

Fifty years later eight of them are still standing.
